Sunday August 13, 2023 , 3 min Read

The celebration of National Handloom Day was initiated by the government eight years ago, with the first one taking place on August 7, 2015.

The date holds historical significance, as it commemorates the launch of the Swadeshi Andolan in 1905 which marked a pivotal moment in our country's history.

This year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an e-repository portal dedicated to Indian textiles and crafts, a collaborative effort of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and the Ministry of Textiles.

The portal aims to create a comprehensive catalogue of India's diverse clothing on a single platform. It promises to be a valuable resource for those interested in exploring and understanding the clothing traditions in India. It has a craft atlas, a cultural artefact display, and a visual museum, among other things.

FieldWeb

Fieldweb

FieldWeb, developed by Amit Dhawan, addresses the challenges faced by businesses in managing field workers, such as electricians and plumbers. Before FieldWeb, manual tracking through calls or messaging led to inefficiencies and missed opportunities.

Introduced in 2020, it streamlines these processes, offering a comprehensive field services management app for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs). With over 10,000 clients, the app has led to significant benefits, including increased revenue, decreased customer churn, and improved worker productivity for businesses.

This innovative solution aims to transform the field service provider sector, which has been primarily dependent on manual work and paperwork.

Dhawan says it is very difficult to explain the advantages of adopting tech to these businesses and hence FieldWeb offers a free trial subscription to these businesses for 7 to 15 days to help them witness the increase in productivity by themselves. 70% of customers become their regular clients.

The company ties up with master repair or distribution franchises associated with well-known brands like Samsung, LG, IFB, and others. Through the FieldWeb app, it facilitates these franchises in embracing digital transformation, empowering their field executives with advanced digital tools and capabilities.

GOVO

Varun Poddar

GOVO's strategy in the audio electronics market centers on differentiating itself through a focus on bass output and integrating global design perspectives. Launched in January last year, the Bengaluru-based company has seen early success. During FY23, its revenue stood at about Rs 15 crore-Rs 20 crore.

The brand’s product range spans from wired earphones starting at Rs 399 to soundbars priced at Rs 10,000. While soundbars presently lead in sales, the team is working to strengthen the earbud offerings, recognising their potential as an entry point into consumers' homes.

The company, while primarily targeting the Indian market, also has global aspirations. To achieve this, it collaborates with design teams in Europe, based in London and Greece, giving its products a unique global sensibility. Manufacturing and assembly are done through third-party manufacturers in India.

Looking forward, GOVO has set an ambitious target of achieving a turnover of over Rs 100 crore in FY24.
