However, Rihanna’s success story is not just confined to the music industry, as she hit it off in her other ventures too. Her phenomenal journey includes her stint with the fashion world, endorsements, business endeavours, philanthropy.
Although the princess of pop always steals the limelight because of her talent. But this time Robyn Rihanna Fenty, the Barbadian singer is in the limelight not for her singing prowess but for the infringement of a trademark.
One of the top companies in Long Island, Kiss Nails wants Rihanna to dispel the singer’s new fragrance. “Kiss by Rihanna” a perfume that the company believes infringes their trademark rights.
Being a fashionholic is like second nature for every woman and Kiss Nail Products are one of the most sought after. It’s a worldwide manufacturer and distributor of professional nail products.
Women love pampering themselves and Kiss holds the distinction of satiating this desire in the real sense; holding a leading position in markets worldwide their business is expanding at an astounding rate. They develop and sell numerous professional products which are available worldwide.
Using the word “Kiss” for the promotion of the perfume barricade the Kiss Nails company. The Port Washington based business wants the “Pop Icon” to stop using the word ‘Kiss’ to promote her “Kiss by Rihanna” perfume as they believe that using that word for the promotion of perfume infringes their rights.
Interestingly, “Kiss by Rihanna” is not the first fragrance launched by the pop icon. Reb’l Fleur, Rebelle, Nude, Rogue, RiRi by Rihanna are also among her highly successful fragrances.
Apart from her success in various ventures, she has been awarded with numerous awards. But her Lifetime Achievement Awards doesn't permit her to use someone else fame icon. Her altruism and endowment don’t let her to cross the law line.
It creates a dilemma for the consumers who fork over 60 bucks for a 3.4 ounce bottle of Rihanna’s perfume. They could possibly be sold to the same customers who wanted to buy Kiss Nail Products, people are likely to be misled into falsely believing that they are somehow connected.
Kiss Nails Products intended to get some compensation for the loss, although the amount is not specified yet.
The Recent market scenario shows that every gigantic player hangs fire to rob the other player’s wealth.
This is not the first time that Rihanna has been caught in a controversy surrounding trademarks. Back in 2015, DC Comics had cried foul when she tried to trademark her name “Robyn” which is taken from her full name Robyn Rihanna Fenty, as it closely resembled the name of batman’s famous sidekick “Robin”.
Rihanna herself is a brand name, instead of using others fame, Rihanna could extract something original from her own glory, which may get her out of hock. Her popularity doesn’t need any controversy to get into the public attention.
You can avoid the trouble by analysing the existence of your own wanna be fame, else someone can screw your public esteem.
