Amazon Web Services (AWS), the leading global cloud technology provider, is doubling down on its initiative to help startups in India build applications on the platform of Generative AI (GenAI).

GenAI is generally considered a breakthrough technology, with promising results in the areas of productivity improvement and customer experience. Startups have been at the forefront of deploying various GenAI solutions.

Talking to EnterpriseStory, Kumara Raghavan, Head - Startups, AWS India and South Asia said, “We have a strong history of supporting generative AI startups in India.”

He further noted that AWS collaborated with the leading early-stage venture capital firm, Accel, to launch ML Elevate 2023 which is a six-week-long accelerator programme that supported 35 GenAI startups in India.

In addition, the cloud technology company, in partnership with Peak XV, this year also hosted the AWS US GenAI delegation which comprised 63 Asia Pacific Japan startup founders and also VCs to gain insights on the latest developments in the area of GenAI.

Recently, the company also launched the AWS GenAI Loft in Bengaluru to enable startups, developers and AI enthusiasts to get hands-on access to its range of AI products and services.

“Developers will have the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of advanced techniques, such as building agentic workflows and tuning foundation models, and dig deeper into generative AI use cases and demos,” said Raghavan.

He noted that the AWS GenAI Loft serves as a one-stop destination for Indian startups and developers to learn about GenAI technology, stay updated on the latest trends, and connect with a broader community of technology and business experts.

Referring to the India Economic Survey, Raghavan said, there were over 13,000 DPI IT-recognised startups in artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, robotics, and nanotechnology by the end of FY24.

AWS is bringing in GenAI solutions across three layers of the AI and machine learning stack. At the bottom layer, it aims to make GenAI cost-efficient with the availability of Inferentia chips. In the middle layer, it makes generative AI app development easier with Amazon Bedrock, a managed service that makes pre-trained foundational models accessible through an API. At the top layer, the Amazon Q is designed to help make custom-made solutions.

Among the Indian startups that are leveraging the GenAI platform of AWS include the likes of fintech startup Fibe, which is into consumer lending for young salaried professionals. This startup is using Amazon Comprehend, a natural-language processing (NLP) service, in conjunction with GenAI, for sentiment analysis and quality assessment of inbound calls.

Similarly, healthtech startup Healthify is using AWS’s GenAI services to provide highly customised healthcare coaching to its customers.
