Staying true to its commitment to electric mobility, Volkswagen recently unveiled a new concept electric car. Named ID 2all, this upcoming electric hatchback is slated to make its debut in a production-form by 2025 and expected to go on sale in international markets by early 2026.

This electric car is among a host of new electric vehicles (EV) currently under development by Volkswagen (VW) along with the new ID.3, long-wheelbase ID, Buzz, and ID.7. When launched, this battery-powered hatch is expected to be priced below €25,000 (roughly Rs 22 lakh).

The ID 2all will be the first model to be based on the long-awaited MEB Entry platform, developed by the Volkswagen Group. It will join the likes of the production version of Skoda Cupra Urban Rebel concept and an upcoming VW compact crossover. In total, there will be ten new VW models based on the MEB architecture set to launched by 2026.

Exterior design

The ID 2all concept previews the brand’s new design language, drawing upon styling inspiration from models like Volkswagen Beetle, Golf and Polo. VW claims the upcoming electric hatchback will be “as spacious as a Golf and as inexpensive as a Polo”. It will be the brand’s entry-level EV and sit below the upcoming ID 3 in VW’s lineup.

Up in the front, the ID 2all concept flaunts an LED light bar spanning the width of its fascia. Its side profile remains understated with flared wheel arches and dual-tone, machine-cut alloy wheels. The rear section seems familiar and inspired by the current-gen Polo with LED taillights connected by a light bar horizontally across the tailgate.

As for dimensions, ID 2all measures 4,050mm long, 1,812mm wide and 1,530mm in height, thus making it slightly shorter than the Europe–spec Polo. However, the all-electric hatch gets a slighter longer wheelbase of 2,600mm making for a roomier cabin.

Interiors and features

Speaking of the cabin, the interiors wear a futuristic look with a minimalist styling and “high-quality” materials. Its bare-bones dashboard flaunts a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument console and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Moreover, the cabin appears to be practical with plenty of storage spaces and well-lit thanks to ambient lighting.

Other creature comforts to be offered in ID 2all include a head-up display, two wireless charging pads, LED matrix headlights, massaging electric seats, a panoramic sunroof and advanced safety features such as Travel Assist and Park Assist.

Powertrain specs

The ID 2all concept will derive power from a front axle-mounted motor that develops 222 bhp. While the battery capacity for the electric hatch hasn’t officially been revealed, the MEB Entry platform supports two battery packs– 38kWh and 56kWh– each of them using different battery cell technology. As per the WLTP cycle, maximum range of the upcoming electric car has been pegged at around 450 km.

Using a DC fast charger, the battery could be juiced up from 0 to 80% in just 20 minutes. Buyers will also get the option of a 11kW home charger. In terms of performance, the ID 2all can sprint 0-100 kmph in under 7 seconds.
