The country manager of Amazonconsumer business in India, Manish Tiwary, has resigned.

Tiwary, who has been with Amazon India for over eight years, will be joining a new company, according to a spokesperson at Amazon India.

Starting as Vice President at Amazon India in 2016, Tiwary joined Amazon India from Unilever Gulf. He took over the role of country head for the ecommerce giant after Amit Agarwal was elevated to the post of Senior Vice President of Emerging Markets at Amazon from heading the company’s consumer operations in India in 2022.

Reuters was the first to report the news.

"Manish Tiwary, Country Manager for Amazon India, has decided to pursue an opportunity outside of the company. Manish’s leadership over the last eight years has been instrumental in delivering for customers and sellers, making Amazon.in the preferred marketplace in India," said a statement issued by Amazon India in response to queries from YourStory.

The statement further added, "Manish will continue with Amazon until October to help ensure a smooth transition. India is an important priority for Amazon. We are excited by the momentum and business results we have already achieved, and we are even more optimistic about the significant opportunities ahead to innovate on behalf of our customers and digitally transform lives and livelihoods."

While the company did not comment on choosing a successor for Tiwary, it added, "Amit Agarwal, SVP India and Emerging Markets, will remain closely involved with the Amazon.in team, guiding its strong bench of leaders to deliver on this opportunity."

Amazon India invested Rs 2,490 crore in 2024 in its marketplace arm, Amazon Seller Services across two tranches in February and May this year. The company posted a revenue of Rs 22,198 crore for FY23, with losses touching Rs 4,854 crore for the period.
