Hebbevu Genetics is using IVF to make dairy farming sustainable and profitable
A subsidiary of Hebbevu Managed Farmland, Hebbevu Genetics is using modern IVF techniques on cows to improve genetic traits, reviving old indigenous blood to get 100% purity, and boost disease resistance.
Hebbevu Managed Farmland has announced a new subsidiary, Hebbevu Genetics, which aims to transform cattle genetics and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) in India. Founded by brothers Amith Kishan and Ashrith Kishan from Karnataka, Hebbevu Genetics is working to refine cattle breeding practices, upgrade genetic worth, and augment productivity – vital factors when it comes to the dairy farming sector.
Typically, progressive dairy producers use artificial insemination and conventional embryo transfer to hasten genetic improvement within herds. However, many are now shifting to IVF, which generates embryos from elite donor cows and transfers them into cows with less genetic merit.
IVF technology for humans is well established, but remains nascent when it comes to animals in India.
Hebbevu Genetics aims to change that. Just recently, the Kishan brothers created history after successfully completing 80 embryo transfers in a day, setting a record in India. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as only a few veterinary professionals in India can perform one or two such procedures in a single day.
The use of modern IVF techniques on cows leads to better genetic traits, reviving old indigenous blood to get 100% purity, and higher disease resistance – factors essential for sustainable and profitable dairy farming in India.
