Chaayos, Flyrobe raise funding; Facebook to spend $1 bn on a data centre
It was a moment of pride as the Supreme Court pronounced a unanimous verdict on pleas challenging the validity of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that criminalises gay sex. Facebook is planning to set up a 11-storey, 170,000-square-meter data centre in Singapore at an investment of $1 billion. Facebook data centres are some of the most advanced energy and water-efficient facilities in the world, and the social media giant's first in Asia will use the StatePoint Liquid Cooling system technology that uses water to cool the air as well as reduce water usage.
Tea café chain Chaayos raised $12 million (about Rs 81 crore) in its Series B round of funding from SAIF Partners, Integrated Capital and Pacatolus. The fund raised will be used by the parent firm, Sunshine Teahouse Private Ltd, for expanding the chain of tea cafes in existing cities of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Chandigarh, which it runs under the Chaayos brand.
Mumbai-based online fashion rental startup Flyrobe raised around $3.6 million (Rs 26.4 crore) from multiple investors in a round that was led by Sequoia Capital, documents filed with Registrar of Companies (RoC) shows. While Sequoia pumped in Rs 10.1 crore, IDG Ventures infused Rs 6.1 crore in the round. Flyrobe founders Pranay Surana and Shreya Mishra also participated in the round and together infused around Rs 1 crore.

Sachin Gulati, an educator, founded TruMath in 2016 as an online education startup focused on teaching mathematics to students between Class 8 and Class 10, and to make learning the subject more fun, creative, and impactful. TruMath services are priced at Rs 5,999 per annum. As of now, the platform has around 170 students who have paid for the course, while the subscriber base has crossed 2,000.
