These startups make wedding a hassle-free affair

Several startups are offering solutions to help make the ‘big day’more memorable and unique.

The wedding day is very special for every couple, and they wish to make it as memorable as possible. While the event itself is important for everyone, the entire experience can be quite stressful and exhausting.

According to industry experts, the Indian wedding industry is worth Rs one lakh crore, and is growing at 25 percent annually. The market is also quite lucrative and has witnessed many startups offering different solutions to the wedding industry. The estimated cost of an Indian wedding in India is anywhere between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 5 crore.

With youngsters wanting their wedding to be unique, everything from venue to shopping, food to photography is expected to be perfect. But getting it just right is also difficult. YourStory lists a few startups that are transforming the wedding industry in India.

Wedding Brigade: Mumbai-based Wedding Brigade is an online portal that was launched in 2014. It is one of the first few startups in the sector to explore this opportunity. Having raised Rs 10 crore from multiple investors, the startup provides curated content, products and offers services pan-India and internationally. It is a one-stop shop for all the wedding-related services, products, and articles.

Wedeterna: Launched in 2016, Kochi-based Wedeterna lets a prospective bride/groom self-arrange their marriage. It is an online matrimonial platform where individuals can interact and get to know each other by registering their details and their expectations. The platform is designed for those who want traditional arranged marriages, without leaving things entirely to the family. Founded by Saneesh Sukumaran, Wedeterna was funded by an angel investor for an undisclosed amount. It has built a member base of over 12,000 users with their current revenue at over Rs 1 lakh.

ForMyShaadi: Started by Sudha Maheshwari in 2016, ForMyShaadi is a wedding gift e-registry website for the to-be-married couple. This Gurugram-based startup invites the couple to create a gift wish-list from which their friends and family can select and purchase gifts for them. ForMyShaadi was bootstrapped with an initial investment of $100,000. The platform runs on the marketplace model and has signed over 60 brands who share revenue per sale.

Shaadilogy: Founded by Aayshya Jhunjhunwala and Vasundhara Mantri in 2016, Kolkata-based Shaadilogy offers clothes and accessories from leading and upcoming Indian designers. It provides products featured in theme-based closets for anyone attending weddings. Shaadilogy, which is currently bootstrapped, has a website and a mobile application. One can also order wedding services such as customised gifting, a gift registry, a designer concierge, and manage the entire wedding process online.

Bollywoodshaadis.com: Founded by Apoorv Kalra in 2014, Bollywoodshaadis.com is a wedding planning information resource portal. It connects the couples with local service providers, allowing them to choose a vendor who suits their personal style and budget. This Delhi-based platform also provides comprehensive wedding planning tips, expert advice, and information on latest wedding trends, and enables young people to create their own personal wedding websites. The website gets revenue mainly through advertisements and sponsored listings and claims to have 10 million visitors each month from across the world.

Shaadisaga: A one-stop wedding solution for people to share, plan and celebrate weddings, Shaadisaga was started in 2014 by IIT Delhi graduates Himanshu Kapsime and Manish Garg. Shaadisaga provides a list of vendors in each category like wedding photographers, wedding decorators, makeup artists, etc, to choose from various cities pan India. The website also gives an insight into different wedding-related articles. This Delhi-based startup has raised funding from multiple investors including Outbox Ventures, ah! Ventures and VentureCatalysts among others.

7Vachan: 7Vachan essentially makes wedding venue selection a 30-minute process. The customers have to simply share their requirements through its website and they will receive a shortlist of destination or hotel venues for the wedding. 7Vachan guarantees an average of 25-30 percent savings on the venues. The Mumbai-based startup, founded by Minnat Lalpuria in 2012, also helps you with other aspects of the wedding like shopping services, photographers and make-up artists, and helps in deciding the menu. The angel-funded startup also provides customised packages.
