Lucknow Metro offers special rides to old age home inmates, disabled children

Friday September 15, 2017 , 2 min Read

The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) on Thursday organised a special ride for elderly people from an old age care centre, days after a similar arrangement was made for disabled children.

The 30 inmates of Aastha Hospice travelled from Charbagh station to Transport Nagar. Wheelchair support was provided for them. The group arrived at Charbagh station in the evening where they were received by Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, LMRC. Kumar Keshav told IANS that the event was a "very special one for the LMRC." He was accompanied by Mahendra Kumar, Director (Operations), LMRC.

Narendra Bansal, 60, appeared thrilled as he said,

I am overwhelmed to visit the Lucknow Metro for the very first time in my life. It was a pleasure to come across such an advanced technology in our city." Others in the group too seemed to enjoy the ride.

The Lucknow Metro started commercial operations from September 6. On the North-South corridor, which consists of 21 stations, commuters will have access to free drinking water. The genesis of this idea was in Metro Man E Sreedharan’s inspection of the Lucknow Metro.

The LMRC is also going to provide free toilet facilities at all the train stations. However, the water kiosk and free toilets, located as they are on the first floor of the metro stations, can only be used after passengers buy the tokens required to enter the premises.
