[PhotoSparks] Design-led manufacturing: meet the hardware innovators from India at the IESA Vision Summit 2017

The flagship event of the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) is the Vision Summit 2017, being held this week in Bengaluru. With the ‘Make in India’ initiative gathering steam, design-led manufacturing is a key thrust for Indian industry for IoT, smart chips, healthcare, driverless cars, and other sectors (see also YourStory’s earlier write-up, From idea to IoT: the wearables and industrial internet outlook for India).

The event drew over 50 speakers and 900 delegates, and featured dozens of startup exhibits, makeathons on IoT and AR, and Technovation Awards. Ron Black, CEO of RamBus, suggested that electronics companies should give chips away for free and charge for activation and provisioning.

“India is one of the epicentres of IoT,” said Ravi Gururaj, President, TiE Bangalore. IoT can help reduce automobile accidents; 90 percent of such accidents are caused by driver error, said Uming Ko, VP, MediaTek.

There were also state pavilions from Karnataka, Kerala, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. Exhibiting startups and heavyweights, some of whom are featured in this photo showcase, include Aceic, Adept, BeeCrypt, Cirel, DERBI, Digicomm, Elveego, FirstPass, Fluxgen, IMEC, Logfuze, SemiKart, Cypress, Keysight, and Tessolve.

“India has many problems to solve, unlike countries like Singapore where everything works perfectly,” joked P. Raja Manickam, Founder and CEO of Tessolve. Hardware startups indeed have their work cut out for them in the years to come, and we look forward to tracking their achievements at forums such as Vision Summit next year!
