This farmer with a golden heart donated for Chennai floods despite facing crop loss

Laxman Rukmanne Katambale is a farmer from Kadoli village, Belgaum. He owns three acres of farmland in his village and has suffered from crop loss this year due to droughts. He is currently burdened with a loan of Rs 25,000, but none of his personal problems have stopped him from coming forward and donating for the flood victims in Chennai.

Seventy-three-year-old Laxman visited the Deputy Commissioner’s office and donated Rs 5000 for the victims of Chennai floods, as reported by All About Belgaum. After his wife passed away five years ago, Laxman has been leading a quiet and solitary life. He doesn’t have any children. In an interview with the New Indian Express, he said, “I have very few requirements. I do not expect much from my life. The only thing I wish to do is help anyone in need.”

Laxman has been donating all he can for the society. He gives a cash prize of Rs 1,500 every year to the top ranking SSLC student of Kadoli government high school, thereby encouraging children of his village to study harder. He has also donated a silver statue worth Rs 1.22 lakh to Kalmeshwar temple in his village, and a silver ‘Paduka’ worth Rs 56,000 to the Changaleshwari temple at Yellur. He had donated Rs 5,000 to help the victims of Nepal earthquake too.
