[Photo Sparks] Diversity and creativity: artrepeneurs at the Chitra Santhe 2015 (Part III)
PhotoSparks is a weekly feature from YourStory, with photographs that celebrate the spirit of creativity and innovation! In the earlier 35 posts, we brought you creative photographs from an art fair, music festival, telecom expo, art museum, mobile showcase, math museum, social hackathon, bookstore, co-working space, sensorium, lantern festival, outdoor ads, startup roadshow, computer museum, startup T-shirts, business cards, art therapy, Diwali rangoli, ecopreneurs, painter-poets, health activists, eNGOs and digital innovators.
This three-part photo essay includes over 50 pictures, and it still just scratches the surface of Bangalore’s annual painting fair, Chitra Santhe! The fair was organised by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath which was established in 1960 and is now a cultural landmark of the state. Its activities include research, appreciation, exhibition and education of traditional and modern visual arts. The Parishath has also established the autonomous College of Fine Arts, and its student volunteers did a great job of coordinating activities at the Santhe – heartfelt thanks to all of them and the 1,200 artists who displayed their works at the fair!
Driven by the consumer and housing boom as well as interest in creativity and entrepreneurship, art galleries are also doing well in the country, with a range of ‘artrepeneurs’ getting into the game. Through a mix of collages and close-ups, this photo collection highlights the creative diversity of Indian artists, ranging from rural life to mixed media works, from the sensuous to the spiritual.
