The population of over 160 million and growing internet penetration makes Nigeria a fertile ground for e-commerce market. Konga.com, Nigeria’s online retailer, launched in July 2012 is gradually becoming an online retailer platform that trades on virtually all products. The two-years-old e-commerce platform celebrated its anniversary last week.  If you recall, YourStory had reported the launch of Konga Mall in April.

The Konga Affiliate initiative debuted last year under the title of 'Konga Associate program'. This was done in a bid to reward promoters of the Konga brand and to enable them earn some commission for every sale made through their media channels. The Associate Program is open to anyone anywhere who is willing to promote Konga products for a commission.

Nija Tech Guide is a website focused on technology news, reviews, specs and prices of gadgets. It serves as a guide for making the right purchase decisions in the technology market. The business model of Nija Tech Guide is to write a detailed review about the mobile phone and then post Affiliate links of Konga.com and competitor Jumia.com. Usually these gadgets are cheaper on Konga so people buy them there. According to external sources, Nija Tech Guide blog sends more traffic to Juman than Konga. But the ones who go to Konga are usually those who buy.

Gabriel Gab-Umoden, Konga’s Head of Marketing, said: "We are quite pleased with this new development. At Konga, we are always on the lookout for ways to reward our promoters and customers alike. And we are grateful for the support we have got from all our affiliates. We hope to make more people millionaires through this program."

As we have noted, Konga’s affiliates are around 2,500 who are earning money by sending traffic to Konga. These partners are media savvy and promote different products across many digital platforms in orders. For example, Nija Tech Guide has 71,424 likes on facebook and about 11,000 twitter followers. Since Konga tracks the URL where visitors come from affiliates will be paid based on conversion.
