Artificial Intelligence Based Dam Automation System by Startup Incone Technologies

“For me the best part is solving a problem that I am so passionate about, even if, the solution doesn’t result in wealth generation. That fact that “I solved it” thrills me. And believe it or not, if you really do solve a big problem, wealth will almost always follow anyway.”

These insightful words come from Nirmit Parikh, Founder, Incone Technologies. Incone deals with Artificial Intelligence based Control systems for Dam Automation, focusing particularly into Flood Forecasting and Automatic Reservoir Monitoring & Control systems (ARMAC). Although this sounds like some real sci-fi stuff, Nirmit worked towards developing this system after he observed the city of Surat getting inundated with water after flood in the year 2006.

“When the causes of the flood were discussed, myriad reasons popped up. They ranged from no real-time analysis of Meteorological data, mismanagement at officers end, et al, came out. But whatever the reason was, there was a lot of damage to life and property. So I took this up as challenge and started working on it,” adds Nirmit. He graduated from Nirma University with a B.Tech and joined an MNC as thousands of other grads. It is what he did six months after joining the job that makes all the difference.

AD Hydro Project

192 MW Allain Duhangan Hydro Power Project located in district Manali, Himachal Pradesh.

Chamera Hydro –Electric Power Plant-NHPC

231 MW Chamera-III Hydroelectric Project is situated in the Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh.

Uri Hydro Elecric Power Project –NHPC

240 MW Uri-II Hydroelectric Project is located in the Uri Tehsil of the Baramulla district, Jammu & Kashmir

Parbati Hydro Electric Power Plant - NHPC

520 MW Parbati-III Hydroelectric Project is located in the Kullu district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is a run of the river scheme. It is anticipated that the project will generate 1,963.29 MUs of energy in a 90% dependable year.

“Selling the system was much of a challenge. A lot of times when I used to go and market it, the clients used to ask ‘Can u send somebody senior from your company to talk to us?’ and I used to laugh and say, I am the boss,” says Nirmit jokingly. However, once he was done with his presentation explaining the technology, there was no looking back.
