[YS TV] Redbus CEO, Phanindra Sama on Crossing the 1 Crore Ticket Sales Mark

Redbus, India’s largest online bus ticketing agency, has seen exponential growth over the years and reached yet another milestone of selling 10 million (1 Crore) bus tickets. Changing the way Indian book bus tickets, Redbus has had a phenomenal journey. We recently caught up with Phanindra Sama, founder and CEO, on reaching the 1 Crore ticket sales milestone.


Founded by Phanindra Sama, Charan Padmaraju and Sudhakar Pasupunuri, all frequent travellers themselves, Redbus has been able to achieve a unique space in the Indian startup ecosystem. Founded back in 2007 when the startup environment wasn't dynamic and there was hardly any support available, Redbus has beaten the odds and a solved a very big pain point for Indians.

On the occasion of reaching the 1 Crore bus ticket sales milestone, we got in touch with Phanindra Sama to know his story and the challenges he faced while scaling up Redbus. On the stratup ecosystem evolution in India over past few years, he says, “The ecosystem is getting better over time. There has been a tremendous change from the time we started, to the present, where entrepreneurship is celebrated today". He spoke about the challenges ahead and the growing pressure, and how they will continue to do the best they are at. His advice for new and upcoming entrepreneurs: "Give importance to your mentors/investors, look upto them as your Gurus and learn from them.
